ARTHUR ROBINS, THE LAST SHOT

THE LAST SHOT

The Cue Ball is bone white. In contrast, the 8 Ball is so glossy black, it reflects the world around it. When you peer into it, you can see your family, your friends, your very soul. It's midway between the solids and the stripes. It has its own rules. It's no color. It's all colors. It's the pupil of the eye. It's the forbidden fruit. It's the final call. When you face it, it faces you. Other balls may cleanly obey. But the 8 Ball stands alone. He owes nothing to no-one. If you don't sink him, your opponent will. You long to capture the Black Pearl. It's time to face the music. It's time to Dance with Death. It's time for the Last Shot.
