STUYVESANT PARK, 1984 Little did I know that when I painted this painting, it would have such an unusual life. I sold it to my then agent. He got it into the John McEnroe Gallery. John almost bought it. I bought it back. The painting is pure expression. It depicts trees in a park with snow, in front of a church. On a spiritual level, I'm talking about (1) how trees in front of churches may be benefitting from the prayers of the saints, and (2) how (unfortunately) being outside a church is often more exciting than being inside. I remember when I was about to paint it, I was thinking..."How should I paint this?" ...when I simply decided ,"OH TO HECK WITH IT!!!" and just exploded with color and freedom! I figured that this painting is about freedom from legalism and tradition, so I painted it that way. It was the right way to go. ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING
